Once upon a time...
The old family farmhouse and a completely restored old farmhouse are the two buildings that have hosted the restaurant and the Agriturismo C’era una volta (Once Upon a Time) Farmhouse since 1994. The work to recover the entire structure took years but, in the end, the house where Silvia’s grandparents resided became the perfect place for an holiday away from the hectic hustle and bustle of city life.
Here, immersed in the idyllic landscape of southern Monferrato, time is marked by the rhythm of the seasons that follow one another slowly and dictate the deadlines for sowing and harvesting, pruning – when the vine cries its lifeblood – and the harvest.
A place of respect for a winemaking tradition that has been able to make this area and its wines an excellence that the whole world envies us. Even the name that Silvia with her husband Daniele and brother Giovanni have chosen for their farm – C’era una volta (Once upon a time), in fact – is a tribute to the memory of this land and to all those who from generation to generation have been able to pass on stories, crafts, flavors.
The Farmhouse
The welcome that Silvia reserves for her guests is that of seven double bedrooms, perfectly furnished in the peasant style typical of these areas: a sober and composed elegance where every detail is taken care of to perfection to ensure maximum comfort.
Each room is in fact equipped with private bathroom, television, air conditioning and wireless connection.
Tourists, travelers and gourmets who decide to stay at Once Upon a Time, can count on a hearty breakfast, included in the cost of the room, but they can also be tempted by Silvia’s cuisine, for lunch or dinner
The Restaurant
The farmhouse restaurant – also open to non-resident guests – is in fact renowned for its typical Piedmontese family cuisine. Many of the recipes prepared by Silvia (the ones that are most successful) still follow the indications that her grandmother Mimma (Irma) had written down in a Notebook: the bagna cauda, the agnolotti al Plin, the memorable panna cotta. Silvia uses only carefully selected ingredients, most of which are of own production or at km 0. A menu that follows the season with fresh raw materials. And to accompany each dish, nothing better than wines or beers produced on the farm!
Next to the farmhouse, Silvia also owns the Azienda Agricola which bears the family name and the Brewery that produces Edifil Beer, managed by the son-inlaw and master brewer Gabriele Ormea, where they produce artisanal agricultural beers.
